In both letters, Pitt seeks possible engagements at the Princess's Theatre. In (1), he states "I named King Lear as an opening part. I withdrew the idea, and think Shylock safer." In (2), he mentions that he was to have opened at Drury Lane in King Lear, but that engagement "fell to the ground through the utter inability of the management to cast my pieces."
